Comment:

I changed the startup method in Windows from the normal /fastdetect to /CMDCONS and now the system boots directly to the recovery console every time. How do I disable this so I can boot back into Windows? I do not have a set of emergency recovery disks =\

Any help would be appreciated.

First go to another computer that is running Windows 2000. Copy NTDETECT.COM, NTLDR, and BOOT.INI to a blank floppy disk.

Assuming that your copy of windows 2000 is on the first drive first partition on an IDE controller, and installed into the \winnt folder the boot.ini should look like this.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

That is a NT boot disk when you add those three files. You should be able to boot normally with that disk and then fix your boot.ini.

E-mail me if you have a problem.
