Comment: Hi I was looking at a friends computer with win2000 on it and I was wanting to make some changes like increase the display colors, use the cd burner and delete entries in device manager but the dude that installed windows for her has set a System administrator password/username. The problem is we can't contact him as she lost his number. Am I able to change it by running msconfig? What exactly should I change if so? Reply: (edit)MMmmmm thought there may be another way. Unfortunately this friends computer is far from where I live and going back twice is not really practical. Plus I don't know the type of key that is used to open the box. It is not opened with a phillips head screwdriver. I may have to format I dunno just thought there may be another way. Someone told me through running msconfig and adding "rem" before something....I can't remember...she wasn't specific enough. Reply: (edit)No need to go through the hassle described in Martin’s link. There are utilities available to change the account passwords. Some are free, some aren’t. Go a google search for ‘Windows password recovery’ or similar phrase and you’ll find lots of options.

Hopefully this week and then I can report wether it is sucessful....otherwise if you find a solution I would like to know!
