Does anyone know a way to disable the pop-up text boxes in Internet Explorer views?

I've searched for solutions under anything from "mouse-over text" to "tool-tips" to "hover-text" with no luck.
Clearing or checking the "show pop-up description for folder and desktop items" box in the W2K Folder Options has no effect. Neither does any IE "Web content" or "accessiblitly options" setting, as far as I can tell.

This function drives me crazy, especially when I'm using History to backtrack to pages that took a while to drill down to, the pop-up path is so long that the box covers not only the original URL but everything below and to the right of it!

For the sake of my sanity, any suggestions will be appreciated...

One way is to disable javascript, but this will make a lot of other "useful" things go away, as well.

You can also use (free) applications like POW! (www.analogx.com) to kill them when they appear.

I'm not talking about the million+ advertising boxes that pop-up on certain websites (although I'd LOVE to find a way to get rid of those, too)

I'm talking about the text description boxes that appear when you hover the mouse over pretty much anything in Windows. For example; if you hold the mouse over an item in your system tray, a little box with it's description or status will pop up. I usually find this info usefull except when I'm trying to view pages in IE History, where the box just gets in the way. Again, disabling this setting in Folder Options makes no difference...

*chuckles* Yes they can be annoying little buggers arent they. However with a little bit of self discipline and smart use of the mouse and keyboard you can make these things a little more tolerable.

Firstly your History problem:-

-Expand the list column a little by dragging the vertical divider a little to the right. Unless you have a need to have the webpage view take up a vast amount of space onscreen?

-Don't select the links by actually clicking anywhere near the words or thumbnail (which causes the tooltip to be displayed). Instead train yourself to use the white space to either side in order to select the items you want. The hover selection should follow your mouse as it moves up and down across the white space.

Also when actually moving around a webpage:-

-Hold down either CTRL or SHIFT when you hover across items which have the title attribute set and the floating tooltip will not appear. I find CTRL works slightly better for me when doing this, but its entirely your choice.
