Hey everyone

I have a pc here win 2000 pro and Im getting the blue screen of death with the error cannot load systemroot\system32\drivers\portcls.sys and swenum.sys

I cannot loose the data on this machine! Its not my fault for not backing up cause its not my pc but it is for my moms business and she really needs it!

Can I disable these drivers in recovery console, Ive tried the command disable portcls.sys but I get an error like my registry has no control point or something (error is not onscreen right now)

Does anyone know a way around this? Can I stick the HDD in my PC and boot from my OS to at least copy the needed files to my HDD?

Thanks to anyone who replies!!

You should discuss proper backups with your mom. A DVD-R is cheap these days and 5 or 10 DVD-RW's will make the job fairly simple.

Having said that, you might recover the system if you do a Repair on it. Boot to the 2000 CD, begin the install process, proceed past the recovery console and you will get to a point where it finds an existing system and are offered the option to Repair it. Do so.
