One thing I hate in Windows 2000 is that Explorer constantly opens folders using custom settings and not details as I'd prefer. I would like to know if I can disable this 'great new feature' and make it work like a plain old w9x explorer.

First, choose View -> Details from the Windows Explorer menu. Then choose Tools -> Folder Options... On the General tab, set the Web View to "Use Windows classic folders. On the View tab, deselect the option to "Remember each folder's view settings." Click the button "Like Current View." This should force the changes to exist for every folder, every time you open Windows Explorer.
