THE MESSAGE I GET WHEN I START MY WIN2000 SERVER IS: SECURITY ACCOUNTS MANAGER INITIALISATION FAILED BECAUSE OF THE FOLLOWING ERROR: DIRECTORY SERVCIE CANNOT START. ERROR STATUS:0XC00002EL. PLEASE CLICK OK TO SHOTDOWN THIS SYSTEM AND REBOOT INOT DIRECTORY SERVICE RESTORE MODE, CHECK THE EVENT LOG FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION.i DON'T HAVE A BACKUP AND I AM RUNNING A DOMAIN.

THIS IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING AND WILL POTENTIALLY REDUCE YOUR CHANCE OF GETTING ANY HELP HERE.

Either another domain controller that was a Global Catalog holder or a system state backup could get you out of this. If you don't have either, I don't know of any way to get this domain back up.

Start by booting into Dir Serv restore mode (as suggested by the OS!). Check the event viewer to try and discover why it cant start (it could be something as simple as someone has removed the "systems account" permissions from the C drive). If you cant work it out then you may need to reinstall Active Directory (this isnt good for your Domain on the whole but it will get your DC back up and running!)
