Probably the biggest difference is about $800. 2000 Professional is designed at a workstation, and so has features that an admin would need while still keeping it user-friendly. 2000 Server has such things as Active directory and all those other neat little toys that you need to manage a small to medium sized network's internet access, security, file management, printing, etc. If you're just a home user who wants an FTP server, than just get 2000 Pro and FTP server software.

Windows 2000 Professional has a limit of 10 concurrent connections. So keep that in mind.....

Windows 2000 Professional would be my reccommendation. Also, instead of IIS, try a simple FREEWARE Web-Server called OmniHTTPD (http://www.omnicron.ca) I find it very secure, very compact, and it has way better security/features than IIS!

Heads-up... W2K Pro does NOT allow you to restrict access to your ftp server by IP. W2K Server, of course, does.
