What is the difference between a seat and a client in a Windows 2000 server license? I see some packages talking about clients and some about seats.

That's sort of a weird way to refer to it. I would say a seat and a client are the same. There are two types of licensing in w2k. Per server, and per seat. If you license the server, then each connection to it requires a license. That's ok if you only have one server. But if you have 2 servers and 10 clients, then each connection to each server would require a license. So what you would end up with if each of the 10 clients connected to both servers is 10 clients and 20 licenses.
If you have multiple servers, you can switch to per seat licensing. In that case, you license the seat and they can connect to as many servers as they want. 10 clients, 10 licenses.

The per seat licenses are more expensive but if you have multiple servers, it's worth it.

Don't know if that answers your question or not, but I have never per of per client so that is why I think it would be the same as a seat.

Hope that helps.
