Comment: After I upgraded from W98 to W2000, I can dial up but - 1. I can never get the DialUp to save my password (it sometimes puts more characters in, too) 2. After I connect via modem, my system tray icon disappears although I'm still on-line and I have to log off to disconnect. Any help is appreciated.

Reply: (edit)1. how are you telling it to save your password? 2.do you have a checkmark in "show icon in taskbar when connected" in the properties of the dial-up? note: to make it harder for someone to crack your PW, the number of asterisks is the box don't represent the number of characters in your PW

Reply: (edit)Steve 1) It's OK, it just adds more *** to fool the enemy. I thought it was replacing the password with something else as well, but that long line of stars (longer than the number of letters in your password) is ok. Just click on the "Save password" (or whatever it says) and it saves it OK. 2) Somewhere in one of the modem properties menus is a place at bottom left where you can click to add your normal W98 online icon to the system tray. Can't think where it is exactly, offhand, I can look for it if you like. I'm a W2K newcomer like you. Dane Dane
