Hi!
I have a DC server with 2 NIC's (10.2.2.2 & 10.2.2.3 / 255.255.255.0) and WinRoute installed (with DCHP service stopped). The NIC 10.2.2.2 is used by WinRoute to connect with Inet, and 10.2.2.3 is used to connect with Network. On the same machine I've installed DHCP Service, configured to assign IP/DNS/Gateway (IP Range: from 10.2.1.1 to 10.2.1.254 / DNS: 10.2.2.3 / GTWAY: 10.2.2.3). Aparently no problem detected at this point, and no event log error messages.
But, when I try to connect to DHCP service from a Win XP based machine (configured to work in the same workgroup as DC) I get the error message 'Unable to connect to DHCP Server'.
It's WinRoute blocking DCHP connections? Must join the domain after using DHCP service? Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

You don't need to join the domain to use DHCP. WinRoute might be blocking it. Is the computer that is attempting to get and address via DHCP on the same subnet? If not, you will need a DHCP relay agent. If it is on the same subnet, it should work.

If you have a 2000 DC you don't need WinRoute which I assume is simply a proxy program. You're probably far better off using the RRAS service with NAT enabled that comes with 2000 Server. This would negate the need for the extra expense of a 3'd party program and also work better with the 2000 Server DHCP service (once configured properly).
In the original post the following statement was made, "But, when I try to connect to DHCP service from a Win XP based machine (configured to work in the same workgroup as DC)"
If you have a DC, that means you have a Domain, and not a workgroup. What you should be doing is joining the XP machine to the domain, then everything will connect and work correctly. If you're trying to join the XP machine to a workgroup (which in fact doesn't exist as this is a domain), you're likely to have problems.
