i just installed a dhcp server but but before then i set the NIC card for a static 192.168.1.1 address. after the dhcp installation the address is completely different 169.254.243.26
i expect it to be the former, how do i do this?

The 169.254 address is assigned automatically when the client is set to obtain an IP address automatically but is unable to connect to the DHCP server.

So, either the server is not running the DHCP services or the client is not properly set to use the DHCP server.

On a guess...check the DHCP settings for the client PC and assign it the correct server IP address so that it can obtain an IP address automatically for itself.

hello Bryan
thanks for your reply, but i'm suspecting one thing. before installing this dhcp server i already have router which has that addresse (192.168.1.1) could this be the reason the dhcp server could not have it? if so what could be the solution?
actually i just install this server and havent configured it yet.

Try assigning your DHCP server or the router the following address: 192.168.1.2

IP Addresses have to be unique and you cannot have two of the same addresses on the same network segment.
