Subject: desktop shortcut start in not working
Comment:

I have many shortcuts for one application on my desktop and each shortcut has a different Start In location. The start in does not work and the application always opens the last directory folder I worked in. Is there a setting in Windows 2000 that can fix this problem or is the fix within the application itself?

It all depends on what the application IS. Are you running a DOS application or a standard Windows GUI application? I'd first try setting up a new shortcut icon and see if that one works (seems odd that you have more than one icon pointing to the same application).....

As Lucid said, DOS apps won't use "start in..." correctly. And then it depends on what program you are using. Unlike Lucid, I think the idea of multiple start in's is interesting. Windows was never good at this tho. Other operating systems you can define a start point for all open/save actions (such as M$ wishes they could do w/ "My Documents" but Mac did it first), or have it go to the last open folder for that particular program (also Mac). I just looked and can't find a way to adjust it on W2K. It might also be that the program does not use WinAPI's and thus doesn't accept the start in's that the API's try to pass.
Best Luck.
