Comment:

When my computer starts up, it only loads the wallpaper, but no desktop and no start menu. The only way to get everything restored is if I crtl-alt-del and choose scheduled tasks option, then it loads. [[A (now former) friend built my computer and left me with no boot disks or anything.]]

Well you could do with an install CD!

Is there any clue in event viewer (run eventvwr.msc)?

History on this would be useful - presumably this hasn't always been happening, so what's changed (hardware/software, virus, crash etc) since it was working ok?

When I look in event viewer, under system log, the only thing that has an error message is Removable Storage Service. Under Application Log there is an error with Perfctrs and Event System.

This all happened after my IT guy at work said to install the Service Pack 1. I have since tried uninstalling SP1, but no change.

Thanks, Becky
