desktop disappears during delete

Recent hard drive crash. Repair shop reinstalled win2k. Now when I try to delete a folder or file, the desktop disappears for a few seconds and the window that had the folder in it goes away; when I reopen the window, the folder or file is still there. The shop sold me another 80 gig "mirror" hard drive to match the one I had. I have 1 gig of ram and a AMD 1.4 (I think) processor. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks, Markus. It is a serious pain. The folders don't delete, the window doesn't stay open, and the desktop disappears, and the whole thing is just an exercise in futility. The re-formatting and mirrored hard drive just took place three days ago. Do you think it might have anything to do with Office 2k which I also just reinstalled? Dennis
