Deleting a folder that WONT DELETE

I am trying to delete a folder that wont delete because it contains characters not recognizable by windows. I am running windows Xp and everytime I try to delete the folder, an error message comes up saying "Cannot delete... The filename, directory, or volume label syntax is incorrect." And when I try to change the filename, it says "Cannot read from source file or disk." I tried deleting from cmd but no luck. Someone said to try a POSIX app. I got rm.exe, but I cant get it to work. I cant find a Windows XP Resource Kit either. PLEASE HELP!

If you're using Fat32 just create a DOS-bootdisc and delete the folder. If you're using NTFS you have to create an NTFS-DOS bootdisc (a bit harder, but just search on google, you'll find it) and delete from there.
If all fails get yourself something like knoppix (http://www.knopper.net/). Thats a free Linux distribution you can start von CD (no installation required) and delete the folder from there.

Try booting to safe mode and delete from there, or safe mode command prompt only. That way you won't load some driver that is using something in the folder and preventing the delete. To boot to safe mode, hold down the F8 key during boot up.
