defrag & scandisk W2K

Most of our customers are starting to switch to W2K, about 1500 computers total...We would like to set them up to auto defrag once a month...FAT32...

Whenever I defrag I have to reboot in order for scandisk to run...this prevents setting up an automatic scheduled scandisk/defrag process...

My understanding is that W2K uses a version of Diskeeper Lite to defrag, (which we use on NTFS machines, and we basically like)...

Have tried Norton Systemworks 2001 to defrag, but same reboot issue for scandisk...

Does anyone know of another defrag/scandisk system we can set up on W2K boxes running FAT32 that will...

1. Run scandisk without rebooting...
2. Run a good defrag, faster than either the W2K or Norton defrag and hopefully allow us to arrange how we want the files to be organized...
3. Be able to run both automatically on a schedule, probably once a month without user input...

Thanx your help
Steve

Hmmmm........I don't remember ever having to reboot after running Norton 2001 speed disk on my windows 2000 machines. I'm presently using 2002 System Works and I can guarantee you don't have to reboot after running it.

NOTE: There is no scandisk in Windows 2000. You will have to run chkdsk which you can run as a scheduled event.

Thanx Curt...I wrote scandisk when I meant chkdsk...

But in order to start Norton defrag, it wants to reboot in order to run chkdsk first because some service is controlling the HD...

I can run defrag WITHOUT running chkdsk...but I would like to eliminate the reboot in order to run chkdsk entirely because the users have to log into W2K after the reboot in order to start the defrag up...

I would like to run an chkdsk then defrag WITHOUT the reboot...this would make it entirely user free to do the entire process...I could schedule it to run late at night for example...

thanx you help
Steve
