Comment:

For about a week now following error message appears in my system event log -
Access denied attempting to launch a DCOM Server. The server is:
{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
The user is Unavailable/Unavailable, SID=Unavailable.

The SID mentioned in the error details is not found in the registry. I'm puzzled as to what happened. Maybe someone can help.

Thanks in advance.

I have had this issue happen to us twice.

Instance 1:
We had installed new APC Power Shoot (Battery backup) software on our servers. When we loaded the software off the cd every night we would get a DCOM error and everyone would lose connectivity to our servers. We finally removed the software and it corrected the problem.

Instance 2:
We use Verites Backup Exec and when we got our new 7 tape backup we started to get those DCOM errors again. We upgraded to the latest version of the Backup Exec software and have not had any problems since.

Thanks,

i have the same problem too.. help..

in my registry, {00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} seems to be associated with MS Word.

Microsoft online support advices to just ignore this problem, but it is really annoying
