I am running a windows 2000 machine on a local domain. Everything was fine until one day after removing a virus and logging off I cannot use CTRL+ALT+Del to log back on - the keys do not function, I have replaced the keyboard and still the same issue - the mouse moves fine. I noticed other info about removing the keyboard from the registry via restore console - however I do not know my old Admin Password

If you can log in with any username that has Administrative access to the machine you should be able to go in and change to Administrator password. As for the keybaord not working... might try Uninstalling it in Device Manager and reinstall it. I'm betting you deleted the file your virus was attached to and it was connected to one of your files associated with your keyboard....

I cannot log on as anyone as I cannot CTRL+ALT+DELETE to the username entry - I needed the Admin password for the machine to use the restore console

Try booting with the Win2k disc in the CDDrive and boot from CDRom when prompted.
There is a selection in the Win2k installation that will allow you to "repair" a Win2k installation. Try doing that.

Ok, well then if you're on NTFS this is what you need to do: try logging in under Safe Mode. If that doesn't work then remove the drive and go to another computer, hook it up and backup your data. Then format that sucker and start over. No easy way to hack the password and if you can't get in under Safe Mode and don't remember any Administrator level passwords then you're screwed, sorry. Maybe, hopefully, I'm forgetting something that will help you out, that someone will point out, cross your fingers........
