I've set up a small network, 2 of the computers are using Win2k. While I have both connected to the internet through a wireless router and hub, the transfer speeds between the two machines is extremely slow.
Would a crossover cable between these two computers (both have spare NICs) speed up transfers? Is there a better solution? I'm usually doing backups of mp3 collections and photos which take AGES through the hub (wired or wireless).
Any input is appreciated!

Nope. Crossover cable would make no noticeable difference. There are a number of other factors that can affect transfer speeds - that is where you should focus your efforts.
Tell us more about your "wireless router and hub". Is it really a hub, and not a switch? Is it rated at 10Mb only, or 10/100Mb? Actually, just giving the make/model of the router should be enough to determine most of the relevant info about it. Let's start there.

It's the Netgear MR814 wireless Router (4-port switch built in, you were right, it's a SWITCH, not a hub). It's supposedly 10/100 (wired), but the transfer speeds are still relatively slow.
Keep in mind, perhaps I'm spoiled and want faster transfers when I'm backing up a 60 GB mp3 collection. But those transfers take several DAYS sometimes.
Should I get a new router or is there a better way to set up fast transfers between PCs?
Thanks for the help!
