I have a 6 gig data file that is a database dump of records. What I need to do is get particular line numbers from this dump file that failed the import into a database. My problem is that I have been using this command:
sed -n -e 10004772P posdata.d >> rob.txt

While this will get out my line number, I have do go through the 6 gig file over and over for each record. Each line is taking about 15 minutes each. I have over 6000 to do.

Does anyone know of a way to get all the lines from this file with just one pass through the file?

I do have a file that has each line number I have to get from the large file. It looks like:

9911266
9911374
9911693

etc, etc

I did try to use a qbasic file I created to get the lines, but the 6 gig file is too large.

Any ideas?

Rob
