Someone please help...
Every 5 minutes or so when I move my mouse it will go nuts...the cursor will moce ALL over the screen and then randomly open all my programs...one time it clicked start and shutdown....
I have scanned for viruses with Norton's and McAfee and none where found!
I have REFORMATTED my harddrive 2 times and it still happens!!!!!!!
I bought a new mouse and it still happens!!
I bought a new mouse pad and it STILL happens!!
I checked where the mouse connects inside the computer for ANY problems and all was fine....
I do not know what else to do =(
It gets so annoying i sometimes wanna throw my computer out the window....
has anyon heard of this or know what i should do??????????????????/

I agree, go to Fry's Electronics and get a cheap 10 dollar optical mouse. Or whatever, hell, even Walgreens have mice for 5 dollars and they are open 24/7.

Well, he said he bought a new mouse and it still happens, so it can't be the mouse. It might be the mouse DRIVER, though. I can't think of any hardware problems that would do something like that. Try going to the manufacturer's website and see if there's an updated driver for your mouse.
It's also possible that you might have a trojan horse. Does this strange mouse behavior happen only when you're online or offline too? Even if you formatted your hard drive, if you backed up any data, that data might still be infected by a possible trojan horse. Trojan horses aren't as easily detected as viruses are. Try running a trojan remover.

Uninstall MS Intellimouse drivers, if installed. These drivers often clash with other hardware.
Do you connect through a data switch? If so try the mouse connected direct to the pc.

go to control panel .... run mouse config... go to hardware options.. then advanced config....rise the display speed and rise bufer length
hope this fix your trouble
salutes

Do you have any remote desktop software installed? Sounds like someone is controlling your computer remotely. if this is true it should never happen when you are connected to the internet or your LAN. Look next to your clock for any new or mysterious icons. Really dont think its a driver or hardware problem considering the mouse pointer went directly to the start menu and then shut down.

I have seen remote access SW do this, (PC Anywhere, Remotely Possible, etc). Someone has loaded SW to you PC, and is controlling the mouse. Go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and read the info on the various links. Essentially, you will dowbload and run the hijackthis.exe file. It will display the entries from your registry that represent SW that it starting up and running. You will save a logfile of the results of the first scan, (DONT DELETE ANYTHING YET). Then send this logfile to the forum for SpyWare, (link for forum on above page). The moderators will examine the logfile, and respond with instructions and suggestions on what to do to fix the problem. Then using the hijackthis.exe program, you will select items from the list to be "fixed". "Fixed" means they will be gone. Sometimes hijackthis.exe must be run several times, each time sending in the logfile to the forum for examination, (some trojans and spyware will be spawned from other malignant SW, [aka malware]). Eventually, you will be free of this problem. Consider who you associate with, who sends you emails with executable programs in them. I know people that will email someone a message with an attachment. When the unlucky recipient opens the attachment nothing (much) happens as far as they can see. But deep down, this attachment loads malware and sets settings to allow remote access for things like keyloggers, (used to gain passwords, credit card numbers and PINs, etc). While communicating with the moderators of the forum, you can ask for recomendations on spyware, malware, etc protection SW. Get some protection!
Good Luck

I have exactly this problem.
I also have a celeron (1 GHz, 384 Mb RAM)
Mouse goes crazy, righ clicks on start, pops open the shutdown menu, but does not shutdown the pc.Stays this way for about 30 seconds. Seems to occur more frequently if I use the mouse more.
Changed my mouse, and it started again after a few days....
HALP!

If your mouse is an optical one, try lots of different mousemats. Optical mice can get confused by patterns such as the grain of a wooden desk or the weave of a cloth-covered mousemat, and the symptoms can be very similar to what you describe.
