Im asuming you are running NT based os (being posted on W2K board) so you should be able to use "Task Manager" (right click taskbar) and then look in Tab "Processes".
This shows you whats taking up, and how much % of CPU. There should be about 99% on "System Idle Process" when your doing nothing. When other things run it will be less so locate what is using it and see if you need it, if not try killing it (if it aloud).
I found that (running a Intranet Web server) Perl scripts (like search engines) sucked 45% of our Dual P2 450s Per Person searching, when 3 ran the system practaly halted (just enough resauces to restart) so be careful with CPU hungry apps running in background.
