CPU temp.

I have a Pentium 3 1.0 GHz with 256 MB RAM, with a GeForce 3 Ti200 nvidia Graphics Card. My CPU's current temperature averages about 75 C, and has gone as high as 100 C. It almost always freezes when I'm playing games or watching videos in Winamp. Is it possible the CPU temperature is the cause, and if so, will removing the case help any?

Hey, if you have problems with it freezing you should get a new heatsink/fan. You can find them for not that much, but I would recommend getting thermal compound, like "Arctic Silver" to keep it cooler. Thermal Compound fills in the space between the cpu and the heatsink, so there is more heat transfer leaving the cpu. I do not think that opening the case is going to help much at all, unless it is real hot inside and you put a fan in front of it to cool it down.
Good Luck!

Akshay, if those are your temps, you have found the problem. Does you case allow you to install a fan in its front, as well as in the rear? Opening the case does not normally help, unless you place a fan near it to cool things down, rather noisy and inconvenient. 1coolpc has the T3REX for $30 that will more than adequately keep your cpu cool under heavy loads. Make sure you follow Jesse's advice about Artic Silver, which 1coolpc also has. I suggest 1coolpc as they provide great service. Take care and all the best!

Well, your problem is surely about your CPU's temperature. P3 doesnt have any right to have higher temps than P4!. A P4 has maybe a max temp of 60-80c or higher, but P3 its too bizarre. If I were you I will buy a P4 processor if you board support it.
Summary: Graphics card has nothing to do with your processor burning up. P4's are notoriously hot. Check that your heatsink is making good contact with the CPU and that you are using a high quality thermal pa...
Summary: The P 4 has a diode built into it in case the cpu temp gets too high.........which will usually cause a freeze. These hot summer days cause computers to run much hotter. Especially the mega gig hz cpu...
Summary: Yes, I have an AMD Tbird 1gig, 266mhz fsb. I also have Cpu idle pro and tried it in Win 2k, but it made absolutely no difference in CPU temp. Cools CPU very well in Win98 tho, Oh, Well, I was just try...
