Recenty I've noticed my computer will not cut/paste properly, and got lots of errors. Yesturday, while downloading Windows Media Player 7.1 I was dissconected from the internet(I'm using an external modem). I tried to reconnect but it just said 'unable to establish a connection' over and over. I also noticed that at this point, there were two svchost.exe programs running, one was moving from 0-2% CPU, the other was moving from 60-100% CPU. After running a virus scan (I use McAfee) I found that I had the MSBLAST.exe worm, so I chose to remove it. Now, there are still two svchost.exe programs running, one which is at 2% CPU and the other which is at 0% CPU, however the 'system idle process' is constantly moving from 2-100% CPU even when no programs are up. Also, I am still unable to connect to the internet, even after re-moving and reinstalling my modem. Any suggestions?

Try to download the "Removal Tool" for W32.Blaster virus and fix this problem. After this, download the patch that corresponds the needs for total removement of this virus (you'll find it if u search in Microsoft for Vulnerability Blaster patch).

Oh, download also "Spybot Search & Destroy utility and Stinger from www.nai.com and run them both.

After those steps I think you will be 100% clean and smooooth...

I'm waiting to tell me what happened...Alert me.

P.S. svchost.exe is a system application that windows runs multiple times. You can have 5, 6 or even 7 svchost.exe running in your task manager view...it's not a virus. If Blaster could be seen in Task Manager it should be written as msblast.exe or something like that...Also, Blaster virus popups a Shutdown window that counters reverse, seconds before the system is down...hope i helped a bit..

Alright I have already downloaded and run Stinger.exe, and it found and removed MS Blast.exe, mslaugh.exe and Nadachi.exe. I tried to dowload the patch (using a windows 98 machine) and transferred it to my windows 2000, however the install window vanishes after 1-2 seconds and will not install properly. I also ran the Spybot removal program, but it came up blank. I am still unable to connect to the internet using my windows 2000 machine. What now?
