Corrupted Cabinet File

While trying to install Windows Media Player 9, I get the following popup error message towards the end of the unpacking process: "Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by low memory (low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file." It's not a memory problem - I have 74+ GB free on the hard drive, 1152 MB "total paging file size" (1150 MB recommended) and 786 MB of RAM. I cannot find reference to corrupted Cabinet file problems on support.microsoft.com. I have rebooted numerous times, and tried loading Windows Media Player 9 from Microsoft and 4 other sources. Help.
