Had "problems" with a 400 gig storage drive so I ran chkdsk and, whaddaya know? Actually came up with my first bad cluster on an NTFS drive. My question is, how long (roughly) should it take for chkdsk to finish taking care of business? I'm used to scans and such taking a long time because of the size of the drives, but it's been sitting at the line "Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap" for at least 2-3 hours now... Google isn't helping me, so I'm throwing this out on here. Any thoughts?

Depends on the extend of the errors on the drive. if it is 400 gigs and there is alot just let it set there and do that and do something else. Or just go and do something else. You have enough ram to take care of that.

I appreciate the quick response...
I guess I just don't know what the process is - as in, how it corrects the error. It's only one bad sector so I'm wondering if it's got to rewrite every piece of data on the drive while avoiding the bad sector. In any case, I don't want to risk a reboot and rerunning chkdsk again. It's taken about 8 hours to get to this point and I'm without my desktop machine in the meantime.
And, please - don't suggest I do something else - that would require me to actually go out into public or something! : - )

A 20-40 Gig ahrd rive usually take rougly 20-30 minutes to complete repairs on an a ck disk option. z that by 360. If Your afraid of public, just go to a Kentucky fried Chicken somewheres have a meal, come back home for coffee. there really isn't much else you can do but to let the wonder of Bill Gates do it's thing. :-> Data

Well, Daydah - Thanks for the chime in - I'd hoped to wake up to a running PC but that wasn't the case.
And maybe the KFC's in the Dakota Territories are okay - but not here. But ya KNOW the coffee's always on! : - )
