After copying a user profile on a Windows 2000 workstation on a Windows NT 4.0 service pack 6 domain. The user is now unable to log on to the domain

I will tell you the steps that I took to copy this profile:

In the System applet under User profiles tab I selected the suser profile I wanted to copy and click copy to. In the copy profile TO field I entered the path and filename for the new profile and I changed the access rights for the profile from the select user window. In the copy to window I clicked ok and the new profile was created. In the registry Editor I expanded the tree to HKLM/Software/Microsoft/windows NT/current version/profile list/user sid and changed the profile image path value to point to the new profile.

The user was able to log on and work on the machine yesterday but today when she tried to log on, it said that her password or user name was incorrect.

I am a little confused as to the next steps I should take... I checked the domain to see if there were any errors in the Event viewer as to her netlogon.. but there were none....nothing else has changed.

I just moved a dozen profiles for users coming from another domain. I used the exact step you used except from the editing of the Registry. This is normaly taken care of by the process. The error message you get does not seem related to the profile as the authentication is done by the PCD. Try resetting the user password.

I would agree with Mohamed. If the user got in yesterday and can not today, they are likely doing something wrong. Make sure they do not have the Caps Lock or Num Lock turned on. It may seem dumb, but I've seen it happen a few times, especially on laptops that have the number pad in the middle of the alpha keys.

Thanks guys... I fixed it.... I just set a new password for her in the user manager and it worked that way. Thanks again for your help though
