Use Drive Image or Norton Ghost to create your image.

Ive run into the same problem......Windows 2000 is not as willing to move into a new house. Infact Ive never been able to get Windows 2000 to transfer over to another system unless the motherboard was identical. That includes images using Norton Ghost and Drive Image. Ive never been able to do a repair...........the hardware settings are hardwired into the Windows 2000 registry. Ive done transfers with Windows ME without a hitch.

I've created many W2k images with ghost and loaded it onto multiple hardware platforms with no problem. What you need to do for it to work is to run sysprep just before you reboot to create the image. Go to the following site and do a search for sysprep. You'll find info on how to use it.

http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&sd=tech&ln=en-us

Here's the basics. Create a folder on the root called sysprep. Copy the needed files into the folder. Open a command prompt and navigate to the sysprep folder. At the C:\sysprep> line add sysprep -pnp and hit enter. This will prep your system for cloning and then shut the computer down. At this point boot with whatever cloning software you are using and create your image. When you load the image onto a different system the -pnp that was added after the sysprep command tells W2k to search for new devices.

I wouldn't do this on your home system though. Since the next time you boot you will have to go through the hardware detection process and some other configurations that could screw something up. But it works very nicely for rolling out new systems.

Thank you for your suggestion, but i think it is a way complicate, is there any easier way to do it, and it seems take a lot of time too...and in addition..where can i get the sysprep.

thank you!

I created a ghost image on Win2K without running sysprep.

I reinstall this image into a larger hardrive (in the same PC, all other thing remain the same).

The PC bootup fine, but I can't log in. It keep kicking me backout to the login screen.

Do anyone know how to fix this (eg. run sysprep on the ghost image) ?

Please Help, Thankyou for your prompt response.
