Comment:

I have a postscript text file I need to copy to a printer. If the printer is local there is no problem in copying to the printer. But the printer is on the network. When I try to copy from the command prompt nothing happens, e.g.
copy a:file.ext prn:
I have seen where the copy command has been used to send to a net work printer with
copy a:file.ext \\routing\printername
but efforts to try this come back with device not recognised. Any suggestions for getting this to work would be appreciated.

Perhaps if you temporarily map a new lpt port to your printer and copy to the port instead it might work better.

ex:

net use lpt2 "printername" (without quotes)
copy "filename" lpt2

Give that a try from the command prompt and see if that doesn't work.
