Hi,
I have a small network in my house, with a Windows 2000 Server, and a couple of Windows XP Pro workstations. There is a printer server connected to the network, which is controlled by the Win2k Server box. After I start up the workstations, I have to type a username and password to connect to the server's resources (shared drive etc). If I forget to do this, when I come to print it waits about 5 mins then gives an error. This is of course remedied by connecting to the server.
My question however is how can I automate logging onto the server at boot? It is frustrating having to connect to the server before we can print.
My other question is how can I get the workstation clocks to be updated by the server clock? At the moment the server clock is set by the atomic clock, and it would be nice if the workstations could be updated by the server.
Thanks
David

If I understand your question correctly, map the drive on the server from each workstation and put a check mark in the "Reconnect at Logon" box.
As for the time, I believe there is utility included in Server that will sync the time on a workstation with the sever automatically.
If it's not a built in utility, there are several availsble on the net for free.

After doing some research, I have found that because there is not a user 'David' on the server. I will have to supply a user name (administrator, as its the only user on the server) and the password everytime I want to use the shared resources on the server. Is there any way around this?
Thanks

Well, if you are running Win2K Server, and you feel comfortable with it, you could always setup a domain.
By setting up a domain, you would have all your computers authenticate your users from the server instead of each workstation. By using Active Directory, you configure users, privileges, etc. Once you decide on privileges, the user will always have access to the server's shared resources that they've been allows to use.
Also, by making all the workstations part of the domain, you also will fix your time issue. Win2000 Server is designed to make sure any clients connected to it stay synched. Then just throw a program on your server like Atomic Clock Sync. It's what we have on our Win2K server.
