Hi, I have a Win2000 Domain. A DC, a DHCP server and a few W2K/XP client computers. I want to get rid of the "Connect to the Internet" Icon on the desktop for each user as they logon. The icon will not appear after the user configures the connection to the internet, but I do not want the user to configure these settings, I want these setting configured already as each new user logs on. How can I have these setting already set for new users, so they or I don't have to set these settings for them?
Note: The internet connection is a constant cable connection.

Since you're in a domain and using DHCP, I'd recommend creating an image to deploy for the clients. You could have the NIC set to DHCP and all necessary software installed.
MS has a couple tools available for creating unattended installs. If you use them to help build your image you can set it to scan for hardware and create a new UID for each install. You'll have to research them yourself as it's been a few years and the only one I remember offhand is sysprep.Research "unattended installs" and the above tool. It will take a bit of time to get it just right, but once you do, you'll have learned something valuable and have a nice image you can deploy across the network.

The client computers have been set up using RIS CD based images. But deploying OS's this way I believe will automatically have the "connect to the internet" icon on the desktop.
I understand SYSPREP but have yet to deploy a computer using this, but I might try it now, unless I can find a quicker solution to my posted problem.
