I have a Win2k pro PC which can no longer surf the internet. It is a standalone pc with a modem connection. The modem connects to the isp ok but you can't surf. You can ping an ip address but you can't ping a "name" eg ping www.microsoft.com. It is obviously something with the pc not resolving names but I can't work out how to fix it. The pc did have newdotnet installed on it (and zonealarm) which I have uninstalled. I know newdotnet mucks around with windows winsock. I have tried manually putting the isp's dns servers in the dialup settings but makes no difference. I have tried another isp and that doesn't work either. There are no proxy settings. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling tcp/ip. I figure that someting is in the registry that is causing this but I'm not sure where to be looking or how to fix it. Can anyone suggest anything?
