Hi!,
I bought a new windows 2000 server from Dell (Poweredge 1600) with RAID 5 (3 SCSI discs).
Do i have to configure RAID? or is it already configured? Is there anyhting that I have to do as far as RAID is concerned or the dell people already configured it before they shipped? I am lil new to this. Please let me know Thanx

If you bought it from Dell WITH RAID, meaning if you specified RAID when you bought it. The factory probably already configured it for RAID 5. I belive Dell does that.
However if you just purchased it with 3 SCSI Disks and didn't specify to Dell that you wanted it configured as RAID, you will need to configure it as such.

The 3disk raid array with both the OS and data partitiions on it is a VERY BAD DESIGN.
Not only is there no hot spare drive in case of drive failure but you will NOT be able to expand disk space in the future without REINSTALLING EVERYTHING FROM SCRATCH AFTER YOU ADD THE ADDITIONAL DRIVE TO THE RAID SET.

Since this is a new machine, I would ask Dell directly. They are proud of their support policy.
