I can't shut down my computer! I get the message Windows is shutting down, and the the screen goes black except for a little white blinking line. The computer will not shut off - it freezes up after this. This happens even on a reboot command, even if the system reboots. The only way to shut down is to hold the power key. I am running Win 2K Pro SP3, on a Duron 900 with 384 MB RAM. This had never happened to me before.

I have scanned my computer for viruses and trojans - nothing found. If anyone knows of a third party shut down utility please let me know.

Did you install any new program recently (or just before the shutting down problem occurs)?

I recently installed a PC Anywhere type prgoram. This program has since been removed by Add/Remove Programs. I am not even sure if this program was installed before or after the problem resulted. In any case I dont think it is connected. If anoyone has any ideas, please help.

I suggest that you download "Regcleaner" and clean you registry of unwanted program 'residual' (leftovers from unistalled programs)
