Hi Everyone!
My PC won't boot, when I turn it on there is no beep sound, no screen display no keyboard access. I tried to boot it from Windows CD, I can see the light on of the cdrom but no response. Could someone give me an idea of what the pb could be. It was working fine till I tried to connect it to the TV to watch a DVD and it crashed. I appreciate any comments.
Thanks

Very vague, but my guess would be something to do with the video card. The computer won't beep because it is there are appearing to work properly, but it may have been damaged when the connection to TV attempt.

Only a guess though.

My advice (as the first step) would be to grab an old video card, throw it in there (take out the old one too of cause) and see what happens.

Leight,

I also thought it had to do with the video, but when I looked inside for the video card I couldn't find it. the only cards removable are the sound card and the modem. the video seems to be incorporated with the motherboard. my PC is an HP Pavillion PII,, If you have any other suggestion it will be welcome.
Does anybody have an Idea on how to make it go to the floppy at start up instead of the CDrom through some other way as I don't have acces to the bios screen or the keyboard.

Your in a bit of a fix by the sounds of it.

If the video card is built onto the mother board I'd still suggest grabbing an old video card and putting it in there.

I don't know which the computer would consider the primary video card, but if it considered the ext. video card as the primary you could get into the bios and disable the inbuilt video card (that is if it is the video card that has the problem).

About the boot from disc. Most motherboard bios defaults have boot from floopy set before boot from hard drive or cdrom. So you could try clearing the bios and seeing if it tries to boot from a floppy. (You would however lose all your other settings in the bios and would need to know them to reset them after clearing the bios.)

Another thing just to try. Would be to pull out the sound card and the internal modem and try booting the computer. It isn't that common, but sometimes if another peripheral has something wrong with it, it can have a negative affect on the rest of the computer. It is very rare though so don't expect anything from it, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I can't think of anything else it could possibly be at the moment, although if you get me the exact model Pavillion and any other information about your computer I can have a look at the exact specifications of it and see if I can come up with anything.
