A friend of mine had a lot of virsues on this pc. I fdisked and reformatted the HD, re-installed 2000 Pro, and her software, drivers, etc. Everything worked.
She took it home and re-connected to her hi-speed cable ISP. Now she says it won't boot or shut dwon unless she unplugs the netwrok cable from the pc.
I've never heard tell of this. Boot sequence is ok (floppy>IDE HD>CD-ROM).
Any ideas? She's 4 hours away, so I can't just drop over...

Perhaps the wake up feature in the bios is causing the problem, if the motherboard has the built in lan. You can disable the wake up feature in the bios. It could also be a defect in the motherboard's lan, and you could buy and install a pci network card. They are very cheap and would be worth a try. Be sure to disable the motherboard's network feature if you try this.
