Comment:

I installed a new hard drive in a friend's laptop. The previous hard was a 4000rpm Fujitsu MHK2060AT, 6GB.

The new drive is a 5400rpm Western Digital Scorpio 60GB.

The new 5400 drive seems to run much slower (poor performance) than the old 4000 drive did and the CPU fan constantly turns on. Does a 5400rpm drive really run so hot that it would overheat the laptop?

Could it be that the power supply can't handle the faster drive? You might want to contact the manufacturer of the laptop.
