This problem just started today. I was in WinMX, then all of a sudden BLAM! my screen goes black and the computer is restarting itself. I was surfing the net at the time with WinMX running in the background downloading a couple of MP3's.

Well after it mysteriously restarted itself, i reconnected to the net and tried to get back on WinMX to finish downloading my two MP3's, while still wondering why in the hell my computer just restarted itself. As soon as I double clicked on the WinMX icon, BLAM, it restarts again. After the restart, i continue on to ty to get rid of WinMX via add/remove programs, as soon as I click the remove button for the winmx program, BLAM, another restart.

After ANOTHER restart, I try to use command prompt to delete the winmx program file folder, and as soon as i put in the "y" to select to delete the directory and hit enter, BLAM, another restart.

After THAT restart, i kept on with my trial and error and went into the program files/winmx folder and look at the files wondering if i have a virus of some kind. I click ONCE on each file to select it and when i select the file named "settings.dat" BLAM, my computer restarts. Even before it is totally booted back up from the last restart it restarts itself again. I finally end up having to turn the cpu off and let it sit for a minute and then turn it back on.

Now; here I am! If what I said made any sense at all to anyone, can you help me sort thorough this mess?

P.S. I ran a Norton AV to see if i had a virus and come up empty.

Dell, running 2kPro and WinMX here too with no conflicts. Norton will automatically scan all of your incoming DL's assuring there are no viruses within them.

My "settings.dat" file is just 14kb. yours?
If you want to, I can email a copy to you.
