My computer would occationally reboot itself without warning. I tried disabling the automatically reboot option, but instead of rebooting, it just gives me a blue screen.

Help.

Usually the blue screen gives information, though cryptic, which can help locate the cause of the error. Does this error happen randomly or usually when performing a specific function? Any event viewer errors?

It happens usually when I'm playing games. In the event viewer it just says that my computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.

I believe this used to happen to me sometimes while i played HL. I think i just updated my video drivers. Maybe you could check for IRQ conflicts.

This was actually happening on my Windows 2000 computer. I did some digging recently because I was having the same problem or at least it had the same symptoms. I found after analyzing the minidump files being exported by Windows 2000 that there was some kind of NAV***.exe program that showed up a lot. I didn't actually understand any of the randomness of the debug. I began searching again tonight and found this article on Symantec's Site:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security.nsf/docid/2002071208532048?Open&src=w&txt=s

Basically what it refers to is that the Kernel Driver which is installed by a Norton Antivirus program causes conflicts at times when it is scanning a file for realtime protection. The website has the whole fix including added a DWORD value to a certain area of the registry. It's hard to explain exaclty what happens, but take a look at the article. And if you don't have any Norton Antivirus program installed, well then I don't know what to say. Sorry, I tried. I hope this helps.
