I have a computer with the following specs: Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz, 32 Mb ATI video card, 350watt power supply 80Gb Maxtor Harddrive, 256Mb ddr 333mhz ram, and an ASUSP4S533X Motherboard. Operating system is Windows 2K Professional. The problem is my computer will automatically turn off and then on again, restarting basically. Once I was on the internet and a webpage loaded up and then the comp restarted automatically, upon restarting before getting into windows a blue screen was displayed with the message saying that a certain sys file beginning with the letters a,t, and i (ati) was not loaded properly or something like that. So when I turned the power supply off and on again and turned the comp on it beeped long low toned beeps intermittently more than 10 times at least. I have AwardBios 6.0. Also whenever I try to insert a disk into drive A:, this problem will occur as well, i.e the computer automatically restarts. Sometimes when the computer automatically restarts it will hang after loading drivers and just before the Loading windows screen appears. This problem is very annoying and I need to fix it asap, I'd really appreciate a solution to my problem. If someone can help me out I'd really appreciate it. Also If I lack technical information about my problem I do apologize as this is my first time using a message board. Desperate times call for desperate measures :-(

well since ur com is beeping long tones before starting this shows a bug with hardware.
Each type of beep has a special meaning and is useful in detecting the faulty hardware.
In your case it may alos be because of faulty powere supply.Try using a different powersupply if possible. Check with ur UPS it also can be the culprit.
check for the processor tempratute in bios setup if it is too high then you need to fix heat sink of processor.
To see the meaning of beeps please check with ur motherboard manual or visit the website of bios manufacturer.

A file with the letters ati, and you have an ATI graphics card in there, funny that. You think it may be the graphics card causing the problem.

Usually long intermittent beeps like that (i.e. lots of them) mean a memory problem. Check to make sure your memory is seated properly; it might have loosened just a little bit. Otherwise, you might have a bad memory stick. Memory problems will also cause a rebooting of the system.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. Now I'm back on my comp and it was off for a whole day, it wouldn't move past the BIOS without giving me that beeping problem. I turned off the power supply yesterday night and left it, came to it this morning, turned it on and then the BIOS was loaded after the ASUS screen and the field on the bios where the processor speed is supposed to said manual instead of 1.8hz, so i changed it and it loaded up ..now im on the net basically checking these posts trying to find a solution....also when I insert a disk into drive a: now it don't restart, it seems to restart to anything in particular maybe it might be a faulty motherboard or something
I'm curious to know though, would memory cause everything to mess up like that, or could it be the CPU, or motherboard, thats the three things I think it might be.
