Can anyone help with this problem. I run a Windows 2000 network and have a Server on which I installed Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Exchange Server 2000 and ISA Server 2000. This Server is meant to be the Mail and Internet Server for the various Subnets.

The Server was installed in my Head Offices 194.50.1.0 subnet and everything seemed to work perfectly but later I noticed that I could not access the Server from other subnets. I suspected that the ISA Server Software was blocking off all other Subnets from this Server Machine. Obviously I run a TCP/Ip Network. When I ping The Server Ip from another subnet all I get is "Request timed out". But I can ping all other machines on the same subnet as the Server.

I later uninstalled ISA Server 2000 and installed Proxy Server 2.0. I now can ping this Mail/Internet Server from "some" subnets that connect to my Head Office network through Cisco Routers (But I had to make the Subnet mask of the Mail Server 255.0.0.0 before this was achieved).

From all other Subnets that connect to the Head Office through LinkSys Routers, I still get the message "Request timed out".

Note: From the start, when I had only Exchange Server on the Machine, I could PING the machine from all other subnets perfectly, even with the normal subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 My problems started when I installed ISA Server 2000.

What can be happening to my network or Mail Server? I need help fast, as a matter of fact I need help on this to get to me as fast as yesterday. Pleeeeeaaaaaaaaaassssssse Heeeeeeeeeeelp. I am getting severe head aches as a result of trying to solve this problem.

ISA server blocks ping request by default. (to prevent DoS attacks). ISA also blocks everything else until you make a rule to allow it. (usually with wizards) if budget allows put ISA server on a different box without anything else on it.

Thanks CJ,

At least now I know I've not gone nuts; so ISA actually blocks ping request. Ah! I guessed right then.

But I'm still stuck. As it is, I have to make do with this one machine to serve the purpose of Mail and Internet Server.

I might be able to persuade my Manager to get another separate System for ISA Server. But how do I get my current Mail / Internet Server back on the network properly so that all machines can have access to it. Other systems still cannot PING it even after uninstalling ISA Server.

But even if I put ISA on a separate Machine (Box), I still have to share the internet on it. Will it not still block off all my other Subnets. Maaaaaaaaan, :-(

I've been on this for three weeks now. Boy I'm #$@$%&.
