For some reason ever couple seconds a dos shell opens up with the cmd.exe program, then closed. I found a temporary fix by going into windows/system32 and deleting the file. After deleting it program reappears but no keeps open and closing.

Because I couldn't think of anything else I did refresh of the OS, WIN2k. but the problem keeps happening evertime I reboot the computer.

Sounds suspicious to me. I would open Task Manager and see if you can identify the process that starts when this windows pops up. Could be a lot of things. Could be a virus. Could be a installation. It would help to know what is bringing this box up.

Exactly my thoughts, I did open the task manager but couldn't find anything that was running cmd.exe. For got to say that when I deleted cmd.exe I got a error from windows stating that explorer32 has encoutered an error and will close. I updated my virus database and ran a full virus scan, no viruses detected.

OK. Here it is... you had the IRC/backdoor.SbDot trojan horse. It infects the c:/windows/system32/explorer32 file. Download AVG virus software for free. It'll fix everything.

Ok I found out what the problem is with your file. It is a dos shell that is being opened by a Virus. The infected file most likely is your c:/WINNT/System32/System32.exe

Its infected by the IRC Trojan virus.

You need to quarantine this file and replace it. I hope this helps you in getting your computer fixed.

This is a web link about the Explorer32.exe file being infected. Go here for more info.

I have almost the exact same problem. Ironically, too, I just recently started to use Kazaa...Every time I start my computer, a DOS window appears briefly and then disappears. Then if I go to my Kazaa shared files, there are over 100 .exe files ranging from PS2 emulators and games to porn crap to cloege study guides and Adobe manuals...password crackers...all sorts of stuff.I noticed also that each one of these files was created as soon as I turned the computer on.
I found a file called CMD.EXE-087b4001.pf and is located in my C:\windows\prefetch folder. Can I just delete this file or is this file supposed to be there?
