My question is when I start up my computer I get a dos looking window that opens (that never did before) and it is a blank black rectangle. The header on it is C://winnt/system/cmd.exe (wth)?

I don't understand this and I would like to know if any of you can help me to stop this from happening. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

There's a command named WTH that is being run automatically whenever you start Windows. Since it is a DOS native program, it is being loaded through CMD (Win2K's DOS shell). To stop it from appearing, you must look either into Start --> Programs --> Startup, or inside the registry on the key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

or

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Be careful and write down everything to go back if you have problems... it could be a neccesary program for your computer.

There are a few more possibilities: if you are loggin into a domain (your computer is part of a network), then it may be a login script. Also you could look inside the file WINNT\WIN.INI for the line "run=".

Also, in the registry you can look inside "\RunServices" too.

Hope you find that weird thing!

Just get into Windows Explorer and open it with Notepad. To do so, select the file, then hold the Shift key while right-clicking it again, and select "Open with...", there you'll be able to select Notepad.
