Situation: Win2k server with DHCP active.
Question: How to configure one of the clients with static ip - or more importantly how to configure one of the clients to maintain a particular ip.
Action: I have been through the process of assigning static IP to the client, it accepts, runs ok, on the next bootup it again reverts to "obtain an ip address automatically".
I have been to DHCP server and configured it to not assign that particular ip to anyone (reserved IP), but next time DHCP assigned a different ip to that client, on the next boot still another.
How to stop DHCP assigning ip to this particular client and/or how to stop this client from getting ip from the DHCP?Thankful for any input.

If I am understanding what you want correctly.. you want a node on your network to have the same IP all the time. (like a server, or a printer)
To do this goto your DHCP tool under "Administrative Tools". Then go to the scope that you want this in. right click reservations folder, choose New Reservation.. Put in the MAC of the node that you want "static" and the IP you want it to have.

Try logging on locally. Then set the static IP there.
The setting a reservation is a good way to go if you want the same IP handed out by DHCP. You will definately need the MAC address from the client to set the reservation.
