Hello,

I had several viruses on my computer and after I removed'em all there are some sequels left. Here's my problem. It seems that the system cannot solve DNS names anymore. I'm sure that my internet connexion works properly because I can visit any site if I put its IP instead of its name. The ping command also works but can't solve the adresses (-a option). Is there any way to reinstall the DNS client or is it possible to configure it anyway? This problem may also be caused by something else. If anyone has an idea...
Thanx for help.

Are you on a domain?

Are there any Domain Controllers acting as DNS servers?

Which Operating Systems are you using?

Before you reply, have you tried this:"

ipconfig /flushdns [enter]
ipconfig /registerdns [enter]

Thank you for answering. I am not on any domain and there aren't any Domain Controllers. I'm using Windows 2000 pro. ipconfing /flushdns flushes the cache but doesn't solve the problem. ipconfig /registerdns says:
Erreur: Le fichier spécifié est introuvable which means: Error: The specified file is not found. Is this bad?
Thanks.

I was afraid of that. The viruses that were on your system have most likely corrupted some critical Windows files. If you know the names of all the viruses that were on your PC, let me know what they are. It may be possible to undo any damage the viruses caused. Other than that, I am afraid you may need to reinstall Windows. Let me know.
