I'm in major trouble! This is the scenario:

I had a dual operating system PC with windows 95 and windows 98 (japenese version).
I had to remove both these O/S' and do a clean install of windows 2000 on the primary partition.

I removed the D partition which had 95

I formatted the C: drive as well.

During boot-up i got the message: Ntldr is missing

i had to boot from a 95 boot disk in order to fix this issue.

Now i am trying to install windows 2000 from the C: command prompt but i dont know how.

(it is assuming the O/S to be windows 95 but since it isnt installed now, it is talking me straight to the command prompt)

help please!

thanks a lot!

The Windows 2000 CD is bootable. So my suggestion would be change to check the boot order in the Bios and then the setup should start automatically. You can delete, create and format partitions too during this process.

I had the same problem. I changed the boot order in the bios so the cd rom would boot up first and this didn't work either. None of the commands I tried would but the CD such as the setup or run commands. I ended up installing 98 and then doing a clean install of 2000 on the same partition. I'd love to dump 98 if someone could tell me how to get 2000 to boot up???

Hi,
Well I have run into the same problem as well. Now there is also another solution, in case you have problems booting from your W2000 installation CD. The solution here is to boot from a 95 or 98 bootdisk to allow yourself access to your CDRom. From there on , you switch to the CDRom, and you will see in its root that there is a dir called [Bootdisk]. Enter that directory and execute the "Makeboot.exe" command. The CDRom will ask you to prepare 4 floppy disks and will then copy some install files onto them. Follow the instructions and label those four disks. Once finished, reboot from the first disk that you have just created, and you're on your way, installation has begun. just follow the instructions there. That's it. ;)
Alex.
