Hi, on my work machine I don't appear to be able to change the wallpaper from the default boring blue. So I asked someone if they knew a way and they said to open the image I wanted as wallpaper in Paint, and to save it as wallpaper. The image I used was 1024x768 to match my desktop resolution, but the image comes up in the top left of the screen, with a 2 inch wide border (in white!) down the right side and bottom of the screen.
How do I either put the default boring blue back, or (preferably) how do I get the wallpaper to fit the screen. I must add, the normal options for tiling, stretching or centring the wallpaper aren't present and I do have local admin access to the machine.
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful as although I can put up with the default blue if I have to, an off-centre image drives me barmy!
Many thanks,
Roger.

Start>control panel> Display> Desktop> select different option> postion-stretch.
that's it////
Or if you want to download pic from the web...select a pic> right click on the mouse> save as background.
good luck.

if this is on your machine at work the network admin may have disabled the wallpaper change option...
one company i consult for..their users when they log on the program they use opens, they can't close it, the only thing they can do is logoff (not even shut down the system) no programs, settings, desktop, or taskbar..no kidding. that's how tight they want the systems to be

Dude, I haven't got the "desktop" tab present. I think CJ is right, the machine has been locked down to prevent tinkering. All I wanted to do was put a nice pic of my kids up there. As I said, I have access to the registry so I don't know if theer's anything I can set in there, or do they lock the machines down with something called "policies"?
Thanks for your time guys...
Roger.

Admins have to "lock down" the desktops and other things to save themselves a ton of werk when people change things so much the pc stops working. I know I want my users to edit the registry on their own. NOT!

Rick, I *agree* with you that letting users loose with their own settings is dangerous! However, I think that preventing wallpaper changes is going a little far. Given that I have admin access to the box and have taken a registry backup *and* I would try any changes on my home laptop prior to trying them on the works machine, I don't think I'm being exactly reckless.
So can you help?
Roger.

Roger, unfortunatly most users aren't like you...a lot of users try to change things just to change them and then mess everything up. remember most system admins take their orders from above, so you would need to talk to your/his/her boss about changing it. i normally use a GPO to lock down users in OUs not domains so the admins can do anything they need to(remember admins are in the domain too so domain GPOs affect them also).

I was with a company that ordered the wallpaper locked after they fired a guy for setting his wallpaper to some porno pic.

Rather than change your wallpaper, download a free slide show maker/viewer. That way you can view your pics when you please and turn it off if your coworkers get jellious and complain about you to the boss.

Thanks for your input guys, I guess I'll leave well alone till I've worked out how to revert to the plain background again.
Regards,
Roger.
