Help, I've gone through the search and have found many items, but none fit this beast.

I am setting up a win2K professional, he wants me to transfer files from the documents folder on to the 250 zip, Well either Micron screwed up, or the lady who unpacked and loaded this system did.

When I do a right click on an item to send to>removable disk(D:), but the zip was given Q: drive, so I have to drag and drop.

So how do I switch the drive letter( I would thing on the My Computer ) from Q: to D: drive for the removable zip disk,(without screwing up this gentlemens system).

Thanks
Erin

In W2K you go to computer management and then disk management and right click on the drives in question and select change drive letter and path.

Hello Erin,

It sounds like what you have is a CDRW designated as drive D and that that is what the shortcut in the "SendTo" folder is referring. The Zip Drive, which has been assigned the letter Q for drive designation doesn't have a shortcut in the "SendTo" folder.

There really isn't a need to change any drive letters as it sounds like your concern is more to have the shortcut to the Zip drive in the SendTo folder. To do this, you can do the following:

Open Windows Explorer and click "Tools" then click "Folder Options" and click the "View" tab. From here select "Show hidden files and folders". After doing this you will be able to find the "Send to" folders under C:\documents and settings\administrator(or any other user name)\SendTo. If you open this folder you will see the items which display presently from the Send To menu.

Now, still using Windows Explorer, locate your Q Drive and right-click the Icon. Choose "Create Shortcut" and say OK to having it placed on the Desktop. Cut and paste that shortcut to the appropriate "Send To" folder. You should then have your Q drive (Zip Drive) accessible from the Send To menu of the users who you've added the shortcut to.

If you wish to change Drive Letters and paths you use the Computer Management console and choose "Disk Management". From here you can change the drive letters associated with the drives. I wouldn't recommend changing your present D: Drive, but if you don't like the Q designation used for the Zip drive you could choose any letter from E through Z.

Hope this helps...feel free to send any questions.

Thank you Shovel204, and Mike W.,

I saw your messages yesterday at the gentlemans home, but didn't have time to act on them. Will be going over there today and will try these.

Do you know anything about the "administrator" log on box which comes on at the begining(boot-up), it's silly to me because we go to put in a password and it doesn't take it,(says something like need to see the administratior), so I delete the password and leave it blank,(the name 'administrator' is still in the user box, but the password box is empty), I then press 'ok' and ~poof~ I'm in the system without any security.

Background: A now former employee set up the system out of the box (Micron) could she have checked off a denie security function during the setup procedure, if so where can I check this. Basically, the man wants his computer secured, and I haven't a clue how the initial password input was defeated.

Thanks Erin,
(I'm will c&p this new problem into a new header. I did do a search, but it seems the administrative tools were not loaded on to the system..)

I called Micron and did it one of two ways, the first(which worked); uninstalled the zip hardware-through device manager-then rebooted, and it assigned the d: drive letter to it, when it was recognized as a new hardware item. The other was through the control panel(many other steps which I have writen down but did not have to use).

Thanks,
Erin
