I recently decided to attach a jaz drive to my computer. I went to the iomega site and downloaded their latest software for the product however the software seemed to have messed up my registry. Ever since I restarted after installing the ioware as they call it the cdroms do not load in windows 2000 server. I also have windows98 which is on another drive I booted it up and the cd rom drives boot up normal. I have detached the jaz drive and uninstalled the software however I am still receiving the same message. In the device manager for my computer under the 2 cd rom drives in the device status box it says the following:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshooter to start the troubleshooter for this device.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling however I have had no luck. I am very upset with the ioware software and do not wish to reinstall my operating system. If u know what the problem might be whithin the registry or how to solve it I would really like to know.
Thanks for your time.

Scott

The bad news is that you probably messed up the registry but the good news is that Windows holds a backup of your registry. Click Start>> Select Run
Type in the following:
Scanreg /restore
This will allow you to try a registry that might work.

Thanks for the data and the info but sorry its not as east as disk management or else I would have had it fixed way before I posted this.. But thanks for the advice it is appreciated.
For the second response will unfortunatly that command does not work in Windows 2000 Server. It very much works in Windows 98 however. There might be another command to do this but I dont know what that is. Besides I am guessing this will not solve the problem. I received a E-Mail back from Iomega--The people who's software has done this mess to begin with and they leave me with little and no response. They say to manually install the drives which I have tried to do and I wrote them that they were not paying attention and the second response was to run the repair utility for windows 2000 server which is on the Setup CD. However I am afraid this might cause other problems with my system. So any other ideas be glad to hear them.
Thanks.
Scott

I had the same problem and Gateway directed me to the microsoft website and gave me this solution, I believe it was for Code 31 and Code 19. It solved my problem.
After you remove Adaptec Easy CD Creator versions 5.01 and earlier or DirectCD version 3.01 or 3.01c from your computer, your computer may experience the following behavior:

You are unable to access your CD-ROMs in My Computer.

In Device Manager, the following error message occurs with all CD-ROM devices connected to your system:
You are unable to access your CD-ROMs in My Computer.
In Device Manager, the following error message occurs with all CD-ROM devices connected to your system:
The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).
RESOLUTION
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

To resolve this issue, do one of the following methods:

Method One
Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Just to followup on response 4, it worked like a charm! Thank you VERY much for that input, as regcleans and reg-utilities didn't fix the problem. I received this problem booting into win2k natively after booting into a vmware instance of the same installation.
Thanks again!

Disappearing CD-rom drives - a nightmare problem, but fortunately there is an easy, safe fix that does not involve the risky business of manually editing the registry. Here's the fix I used on my Windows 2000 Professional computer:
1. VITAL. Close all running programs, especially anti-virus and firewall programs, and task bar icon memory resident programs usually shown in the right panel of the desktop icon tray, by the clock display.
2. Uninstall Windows Media Player 7 and all CD-writing software.
3. Re-install the latest Media Player 7.x version for your operating system and reboot. Your CD-rom drives should be back now.
4. Re-install your CD-writing programs once your CD-rom drives have reappeared.
Most reports show this problem occurring on Windows 2000 computers with Media Player 7, after uninstalling Adaptec/Roxio's Direct CD 3.01 or its EasyCD 4.02 burning software.
However, Microsoft says this problem also can occur under the new XP operating system, after uninstalling EasyCD 5.01 or ANY other CD-writing program.
The problem is that most uninstall programs can't remove/rewrite all entries in the Windows registry that might still point to the removed programs.
That is especially true if an anti-virus program is running at the time of uninstall (or reinstall) since these properly limit manipulation of the Windows registry by other programs.
The improperly pointing registry entries left behind by the CD-writer uninstall can confuse the Windows operating system. Thus it may no longer be able to process the CD-rom drives themselves or their drivers properly.
The Device Manager errors one might get, associated with this problem, are: Code 19, Code 31, Code 32 or Code 39.
The first two (your registry may be corrupted or can't load the device drivers) are the most common errors.
The above fix lets Media Player's install program safely update the registry so that the CD drives are recognized once again.
