I have a CD Burner by Lite-ON LTR. It used to work perfect but now whenever I insert a CD into it, the green light is on, there's the humming noise, and this continues but the drive which is my D Drive doesn't read the CD regardless of the fact that it's a music, game, information, or burned cd. The speed on the drive says 12x10x32x. The CD does spin however since say the title is facing the right direction but when I open the disc it's sideways or upside down. The other drive I have is my E drive which is a DVD drive. It's not by any company. It reads the disc SOMETIMES. It fails to read any burned CDs and reads gaming CDs after the umptieth time that I eject, put back in etc. It also doesn't read any DVDs. My drives used to function fine, read DVDs, burn CDs but not now so can anyone help.

treble,

You've really confused me with the "The CD does spin however since say the title is facing the right direction but when I open the disc it's sideways or upside down." statement though. It's impossible for a CD to flip upside down in a CD Writer. A CD Writer isn't as high as a CD is wide so it is quite impossible for that to happen. Same thing for "sideways". Try to explain what you meant by that a little more clearly and i might be able to offer better assistance.

Whenever i have any CD/DVD problems i go into Device manager and remove the device. Also go into "Add Remove Programs" and remove any software you might have installed for the drives. Now power down and physically disconnect both the CD and DVD and power back up. Now power back down and add one device at a time. Windows should recognize "new hardware" and reset itself. If this doesn't work you probably need a new CD Writer. The lasers have a limited lifespan so depending on how much you use it, they can burn out pretty quick. Usually the writing goes before the reading though.

ciao,
wired

The CD didn't turn upside down. Say that their's a design on the CD such as the name "Detox." When I open the CD, Detox is still face up, but facing me instead of the computer or rather pointing towards me instead of the computer. I don't understand your instructions. I want to reinstall my DVD drive which is the one that's not by a company so it's Standard CD Rom Drive. How do I reinstall it step by step?

I used the floppy to reinstall drive E which is the DVD one but I couldn't since doing it is different on Windows 2000 because of MD Dos so could you tell me some web site or something.

I had the same problem with a Lite-On CD ROM drive. It's not a software prob. it's a hardware prob. I replaced mine with a $5 drive off of EBAY. Works great.
